PVBLIC Foundation and Sanctuary on the Moon sign partnership to preserve a curated archive of humanity's legacy at FOSD Summit

NEW YORK CITY, 25 September - During the Family Offices for Sustainable Development (FOSD) Summit, held as part of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), PVBLIC Foundation and Sanctuary on the Moon signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing a partnership to promote the initiative and inspire global engagement. Sanctuary on the Moon is developed in partnership with UNESCO and operates under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic. The initiative has been selected by NASA to be delivered to the lunar surface through the CLPS program in support of the Artemis program.
Sanctuary on the Moon is an initiative designed to preserve a curated fragment of humanity's legacy for future generations. The project aims to create a durable archive that serves as a mirror to humanity, capturing essential aspects of human existence. The archive is organized around three core lenses: what we are, what we know, and what we make, encompassing biological nature, collective knowledge, and creative expression.
Sergio Fernández de Córdova, Executive Chairman of PVBLIC Foundation, remarked: “What we choose to preserve says something profound about who we are and what we believe matters for the generations that follow us. Sanctuary on the Moon challenges us to think beyond our own lifetime and consider what knowledge, culture, and human experience we have a responsibility to carry forward. Through this partnership, PVBLIC Foundation is helping turn that powerful idea into action, connecting imagination with the institutions and platforms that can help ensure our collective legacy endures.”
The archive will be preserved on twenty-four indestructible sapphire discs, chosen for their durability as the second hardest mineral after diamond. The Moon was selected as the storage location to protect the archive from terrestrial threats and atmospheric erosion, and the initiative will leverage existing space infrastructure to establish a sustained presence on the lunar surface.
“Preserving a fragment of humanity is a collective responsibility. It means bringing together voices, knowledge, and memories from different cultures and backgrounds. Through Sanctuary, we want this collective effort to help us better understand the world we share today. A sustainable future also depends on our ability to think beyond ourselves, beyond borders and beyond our own generation. Our partnership with PVBLIC gives this ambition new momentum and marks a decisive step forward in mobilizing international support to help the initiative grow and share its knowledge as widely as possible,” Romain de La Rochefordière, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Global Affairs at Sanctuary on the Moon.
PVBLIC Foundation will work with Sanctuary on the Moon to raise awareness of the initiative and create opportunities for engagement across its global network of governments, institutions, family offices, private-sector leaders and civil society. Through PVBLIC’s convening platforms and international programming, the partnership will help bring the project into broader conversations about culture, knowledge, innovation and the responsibility to preserve humanity’s collective legacy for future generations.
The signing at the FOSD Summit reflects PVBLIC's broader work convening governments, family offices, and the private sector during UNGA 81 High-Level Week around shared platforms for sustainable development and long-term global stewardship.
