PVBLIC Foundation is seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and personable Staff Accountant who has at least five years of accounting experience and is passionate about PVBLIC’s mission to engage global changemakers and mobilize action to advance sustainable development.
PVBLIC Foundation oversees a multi-million dollar annual budget and is looking for an internal accountant to liaise with its external accounting firm and to develop and oversee internal procedures to manage and track budgets and support the organization’s rapid growth. We are headquartered in New York, NY, but our employees are spread out globally, and this position is a remote work position. This role reports to the President and Executive Director.
Key responsibilities:
Financial:
Working with the President and Executive Director to create and track the annual budget.
Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users.
Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met, including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax, Employer Health Tax, etc.
Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit.
Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
Reconcile bank and investment accounts.
Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting.
Oversee the bookkeeping function, including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
Manage the acquisition of capital assets and ensure that assets are properly recorded, amortized, and disposed of as appropriate.
Assist the President with financial reporting as required at Board meetings and the Annual General Meetings.
Delivers with timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and effectiveness, to the highest ethical standards and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, and universal standards.
Payroll preparation and administration:
Oversee all payroll functions.
Oversee the process of submitting statutory and benefits remittances on time.
Monthly bill payment.
Budget preparation:
Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Senior Management.
Assist Program Directors and Project Managers with the preparation of budgets for funding applications.
Project management accounting:
Liaise with PVBLIC’s accounting firm to help support timely reporting
Maintain financial records for each project in a manner that facilitates management reports.
Ensure that accurate and timely financial statements are prepared in accordance with contract agreements with funders.
Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of individual projects.
Candidate Profile:
Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related area is strongly preferred; Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
Minimum two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience to include, but not limited to: double-entry accounting (debits, credits), and reconciliations; understands the chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheet.
Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, or Zoom teleconferencing platforms as well as experience with standard office equipment.
Experience in non-profit and/or grant accounting.
Experience Bill.com is a plus.
Demonstrates experience in knowledge of accounting theory and practices for non-profits.
Promotes and adheres to the company’s mission, vision and values, policies, and applicable laws in a fair and equitable manner.
Represents the organization in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.
Typical days and hours of work: Monday through Friday (ideally starting out at 20 hours per week with the opportunity to move to full-time)

Salary range: Starting at $30-40/hour
