PVBLIC Announcement: Partnership Opportunity to Empower Burundian Farmers

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

The PVBLIC Foundation’s Public Private Partnership for Sustainable Development (PPPSD) program is seeking a partnership with a United States Academic Institution to support Artifoni Burundi, Farmer’s Cooperative and Mitakataka Traders (CAEC), and PPPSD in the development of a Center of Excellence (CoE) to teach climate-smart agricultural practices to the cooperation of farmers in the Burundian regions of Bujumbura, Bubanza and Cibitoke. Seeking to reduce inequality and empower Burundian farmers, the multi-stakeholder partnership will also construct a new and modern rice mill to process farmers’ rice yields at a high quality and greater per day tonnage — up from 75 tons a day to 300!

The PPPSD mobilizes to reduce inequalities around the world. PPPSD is a not-for-profit model to meet financing requirements towards public infrastructure and achieve SDG 10: reduce inequalities. PPPSD helps vulnerable communities develop impactful infrastructure through access to new opportunities and services for people. Through this program, PVBLIC strategically deploys blended financing to help close the global infrastructure deficit.

A partnership with a United States Academic Institution, in support of the CoE, provides a unique opportunity to showcase their commitment to uplifting the lives of people in Burundi and working towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty — Improved rice grain quality and yield will generate a greater and more reliable income stream for CAEC farmers.

  • SDG 2: Zero Hunger — The high-quality rice grains from CAEC farms will provide a greater and more reliable food source for local and regional markets.

  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth — The CAEC Cooperative and Artifoni Burundi will promote a more sustained and inclusive economic growth opportunity for farmers and provide decent work for all.
