PVBLIC Foundation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), SAWA, and ESG News debuted the SDG Lounge at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in late June. The lounge offered a space for advertising, marketing and communications leaders to address the most pressing issues the world is facing today.
The SDG Lounge at Cannes Lions hosted more than 15 discussions featuring 25 speakers from all sectors discussing how to use media, advertising, and creativity for sustainable development. Not only did the SDG Lounge put the Sustainable Development Goals at the heart of Cannes Lions, it also attracted Frankie the Dino, the star of UNDP's global campaign on climate action, “Don't Choose Extinction”. Frankie showed up to crash the SDG Lounge and became the week’s main attraction. As the Utahraptor strolled the Palais de Festivals and took an occasional beach walk, crowds of creatives lined up for selfies.
“Bringing Frankie to life at Cannes Lions is a perfect example of how multiple platforms can be used to amplify the world’s most impactful - and creative - environmental campaigns. The creative community should step up to the challenge and use its impressive abilities and minds to get this message out: we only have one earth and the time to act is now,” said Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer at UNDP.

The SDG Lounge emerges from the success of the SDG Media Zone and SDG Media Summit, high-level events which have traditionally been held at the United Nations headquarters and at major convening's around the world.

The conversations at the SDG Lounge consisted of fireside chats and panels discussing topics like: How Brands Can Encourage Sustainability, and ⓑodyright: own your body online, a new “copyright” for the human body launched by the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency to stimulate action to end online violence.
Speakers at the SDG Lounge included:
Maher Nasser, Director of Outreach UN Department of Global Communications
Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer at UNDP
Selinde Dulckeit, Director of Communications at UNFPA
Sergio Fernandez de Cordova, Executive Chairman at PVBLIC Foundation
Anjali Kwatra, Director of Advocacy, Marketing and Communications at UNDP
Matt Bird, President at Esg News, Sergio Fernández de Córdova, Executive Chairman of PVBLIC Foundation and Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer at UNDP
“We need everyone taking action to achieve the SDGs, and we were extremely excited to launch the SDG lounge with the UNDP at Cannes Lions to engage the global creative industry. Partnerships are a driving force to create positive change. We are grateful for the support from ESG News, EarthX and SAWA for this important launch milestone,” said Sergio Fernández de Córdova, Executive Chairman of PVBLIC Foundation.
